Abstract

The artist's statement contextualizes Hannah V Warren’s poetry. Often defined as monstrous and grotesque, Warren’s poetry takes cues from the literature and theory she studies critically. Thus, this statement also situates her poetry within Southern and German Gothic influences while noting comparisons between the two landscapes.

Author Biography

  • Hannah V Warren, Independent

    Hannah V Warren is a poet, translator, and Fulbright Scholar from Mississippi. Currently the Kenyon Review Fellow at Kenyon College, Warren has a PhD in literature from the University of Georgia and an MFA in creative writing from the University of Kansas. Warren’s writing and research often center on the intersections of gender and perceived monstrosity. Her recent critical work includes articles on gendered visions of apocalypse in SF television and the female grotesque in contemporary Southern Gothic poetry. Warren also authored the poetry collection Slaughterhouse for Old Wives’ Tales (2024) and received a Pen/HEIM Translation Grant.
